I have to dig pretty deep to watch these ‘debates.’ Supposed presidential hopefuls flailing around on stage, basically saying “LOOK AT ME! LOOK AT ME!” It’s usually a pathetic display of narcissism, with no one really saying anything that will mean anything a year from now.
The recent Miami republican debate was no different. But I have to admit the thing that set the stage for my disappointment of this debate in particular was the opening question from MSNBC Anchor Lester Holt. Forgive me for not being able to google a transcript, but the first question had something to do with Donald Trump. That floored me. Trump refused to make an appearance on the debate stage, yet Holt brought him onstage anyway, playing into Trump’s hands as the media does now on a daily basis.
Please media outlets. Can we get on with our lives without having to be interrupted by the Trump Show every hour? He needs to be relegated to Thursday nights at 7:30 - right before Wheel of Fortune or something. One more season of that and then fully pull the show next November.
If the media doesn’t do it, then the American people who care about democracy need to do it. Elections matter.
